I See Mountains! (for 12 hours...)

I'm in Boone! and I leave again in 2 hours!

I got into town at about 8:30 last night and met up with my brother, sister-in-law (and BABY!), and some good friends Stacie, Andrea, and Evan at Tupelo's. We had a really good time with really good beer and lots and lots of really hilarious stories. I don't think my brother has ever been so proud of me as he was when I pulled my koozie out of my purse. Way to go little sis.

After that, I met up with some of my best Boonies and we hit the oh-so-thriving Boone bar scene, making appearances at Portofino, Char, and, of course, the Saloon. I got to see so many people that I hadn't seen in such a long time and it was really great to catch up with them. Plus, I got two free drinks from my favorite bartender ever, COLTON!

Needless to say, I've been sleeping it off a bit today, but I've got to get my butt in gear and get packed up and ready to go to Kelly & Nate's wedding. It's going to be such a fun weekend, and I'm really excited to see a ton of the old Boone crew that I haven't seen in quite a while. The weather is going to be perfect for their outdoor, evening wedding.

And speaking of weather, I literally got my first glimpse of the mountains in almost a semester when I woke up this morning. I've only been home twice since Christmas and both times the weather was completely uncooperative and I couldn't even see the ridgeline of my precious Appalachians. It was so nice to wake up this morning, look out the window, and see beautiful green peaks. And the dogwoods are in full bloom up here! They're beautiful, especially the two brand new ones that my parents just replanted after our original ones died years ago during the blight. It was so awesome to drive up the mountain yesterday and see so many white blooms... obviously dogwoods have become rather meaningful to me in more ways than many of you know.

Be on the lookout for pictures from wedding weekend... I can't wait to get some shots of the growing baby!! Rachel looks absolutely adorable.

If anyone in the Boone area has an extra charger for a MacBook, I would really like to borrow it instead of buying ANOTHER new one. I can't believe I left my charger in Athens when I have so much Irish blogging ahead of me. And, reading material suggestions are currently being accepted. My most trusted literary source, Mr. Graham Cotten, has suggested I read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road," but I'm sure I'll need more than one book for the hours and hours of plane rides and layovers.

For now, it's back to packing and re-packing, and then back into the car for the journey to Hilton Head. If you know me at all, you know I'm exhausted from all this moving around and I would love to just cuddle up in my heavenly bed with Bear and take a day long nap.
Alas, I'll have to settle for 6 hours in the back seat of a car.

Take care, talk soon.
